There is no denying the fact that Mumbai Indians have been on a roll this year in IPL 2020. They have undoubtedly been the team to beat this season. Their team is a well-oiled unit that is functioning on top gear almost all the time.
Their batting department is in fine fettle with their top and middle-order both firing in unison. While their bowling attack barring one or two matches has settled well with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult winning games on their own.
Their spinners have been decent if not brilliant but they haven’t let the batting teams run away from them during the middle overs. They are a terrific fielding side, in short, they have had all their bases covered heading into the business end of the tournament.
But there is one thing which seems missing from their engine this year, which may eventually prove to be costly in their quest for another IPL title, and that missing link in the absence of their captain fantastic Rohit Sharma.
While Kieron Pollard has filled in nicely in Rohit’s absence, the team doesn’t look the same without the Hitman, who on his day is not just a match-winner but a game defying captain too, who has led his troops magnificently over the years. His experience in leading the team in big match games is invaluable and that is certainly which the Mumbai Indians would dearly miss.
Will Mumbai Indians overcome this handicap and go on to make history? Only time will tell and this factor may prove telling.
