We all knew that senior men’s team of India last won the ICC title in the year 2013. After that, Indian teams continuously doing outstanding in all formats of cricket under the captainship of Virat Kohli. But since the Champions Trophy 2013, the Men in Blue have not won any title.
Following the Champions Trophy 2013 in England and Wales, the Indian team reached the knockout stage under the captaincy of MS Dhoni of all the former ICC events till ODI World Cup last year. They were dismissed in the semi-final matches of the previous two World Cups, in the 2014 T20 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy, ended in runners-up, and in the 2016 T20 World Cup, the Indian team eliminated from the semi-finals.
Former England skipper Nasser Hussain shared his Views:
In the last few events, although the Indian team was able to reach the knockout stages, they are not going to win more ICC trophies. Regarding this, former England skipper turned commentator, Naseer Hussain said that according to him, India has gone wrong with wrong selections for the ICC tournaments and sometimes adaptations of the conditions. Hence, it is not like having one particular game plan.”
Also, he added “Adaptations to different conditions is necessary if you are in a semi-final match of World Cup against a strong team like New Zealand and you are 20 for 2 and Sharma and Kohli are dismissed, where is your middle-order? It could be a mistake of Indian Cricket that the top-order batsmen are too good. When the top order is so good and flat, we can assume Kohli made century, Sharma made century and batsmen in the middle order don’t get a single chance.”
“… and abruptly you have scored 20 with the loss of 3 because you have to face Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood and all the players suddenly are not able to hit and we lost four wickets and now how we are tackling the situation. So it is good to have a plan B always that will help them to overcome the situation. It is not like that only plan A will work.”
Later this year, in the October- November window, the next ICC tournament, T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place. But now the fate of the tournament is not finalized due to COVID-19. If the tournament is postponed, then the Indian team will get much extra time to find out their negative points and change them into positive ones.
