Q & A with Brian Lara
What do you feel about Virat Kohli’s work commitment on the ground recently?
Brian Lara: Virat is one who knows well about his strengths. You expect scoring runs, I mean, if I was the opposition team captain I would be very worried much for every single time he comes to bat. If you look at his runs from the beginning it’s just unreal. So I respect Kohli much.
Many people feel Kohli can break Cricket God Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries…
Because of the way he understands the difference between different forms of the game and plays according to it.
Will Virat Kohli break the record of Sachin Tendulkar’s most runs in ODIs?
No, I don’t think so. These numbers were made by Virat Kohli and have created a great impact. Sachin Tendulkar must be a role model for him. By following in his footsteps, if he goes past him, that’s amazing. I felt the same way with Sir Vivian Richards. But, yes, he is going to go on and break a lot of records. And I also feel that he can break my record of most runs in Test cricket. I am not sure if he is playing that much first-class cricket, so the highest first-class score – 501* for Warwickshire vs Durham in 1994 might be safe. He is always a special player.
What’s your take on the current state of West Indies cricket?
Looks very good with top performances from S. Hope, Hetymer, Pooran
What do have to say about Shimon Hetymer?
Brian Lara: Shimron Hetymer is presently in his best form in all formats of the cricket, especially in the ODIs and T20Is.
