Ex-chairman of selectors Kris Srikkanth showered a lot of praise when he narrated about the World Cup-winning team and how it turned out to be the world champion in 2011. “When I took the charge as the chairman in 2008, my dream was to form a team that could win the 2011 World Cup. God has showered its kindness, and we had a captain like MS Dhoni, and the win was still one of the best moments in my whole cricketing career,” Srikkanth said this in a statement to The Times of India.
It was during this phase when our present Indian Team captain, Virat Kohli, started its international cricket. While he took his steps to ODI cricket like a duck steps into the water, his performances in Test cricket matches were not as consistent. However, he found his way and got support from MS Dhoni as captain and the selection committee too decided to give him a long rope. Ever since he made a century in Adelaide during India’s 2011-12 tour of Australia, Kohli never looked back, and this is what Srikkanth remembers very fondly.
‘Let me revise back that, we were the person who gave Virat Kohli the chance to flourish, and we can see the outstanding result, look where he is today! So, it has all been very satisfying,‘ he further stated.
Former Chairman Of Selectors Praises Virat Kohli:
Team India performed brilliantly this year and Virat Kohli has been magnificent. The captain spoke about his performances and also remembered the World Cup semi-finals moment when Team India was knocked out by the New Zealand team.
“Well, it has been one of the best years for the Indian cricket team, to be honest, apart from playing the cricket that we played for half an hour in the World Cup. I think it has been a beautiful year for us. We shall keep chasing that ICC trophy, it’s something that team India deserves, it’s something that I feel should acquire of all the hard work we have done in the last few years, and we will keep chasing it. We’ll have that vision in place, but I think besides that, the way we have played, the brand of cricket, it has been wonderful to be a part of it,” the captain said after Team India won the series against Team West Indies.
