Niroshan Dickwella is a Sri Lankan cricketer who plays in all formats for his country. He is a left-hand batsman and also the wicket-keeper of the team. At a press conference during the Pakistan Test match, his response to a Pakistan journalist on calling mistaking him for Dhananjaya De Silva became headlines.
Test cricket returned to Pakistan after a 10-year gap because of the death of eight people in a militant attack on the Sri Lankan team bus. This incident had taken place in March 2009, and after this international cricket had been suspended because of the refusal of foreign teams to play there, fearing their security.
Azhar Ali who is the captain of Pakistan thanked the Sri Lankan team for their return to the nation. But the weather gods had played a spoilsport when Test cricket returned to Pakistan.
Dickwella Gives A Hilarious Response To Pakistani Journalists
On Thursday, after early stumps were called, the wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella went to the press conference where a journalist mistook him with for De Silva, who was 72 not out. Dickwella laughed off the mistaken identity from the Pakistan journalists but not before giving them a hilarious response.
When he corrected the first journalist, who thought he was De Silva, Dickwella was again posed a question by another journalist that was actually for De Silva, he corrected him by saying that he was not De silva but Dickwella, leading to laughter all round.
On Day 1, Pakistan got off to a fine start as Sri Lanka was 202 for five before the game was stopped. On Thursday, Day 2, the game was played only for 83 minutes, during which 18.2 overs were bowled and 43 runs were added.
In Rawalpindi, on Friday, wet weather delayed the start of a game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka as well as lunch without a ball being bowled the lunch was taken.
The Sri Lankan team, who won the toss and chose to bat in the first innings, were on 263-6 with Dhananjaya De Silva not out on 72 and Dilruwan Perera on two.
For Pakistan, the 16-year-old paceman Naseem Shah (2-75) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (2-47) were the top bowlers for their side.
