Wasim Jaffer once again into trolls section, this time he made on addressing Indian captain Virat Kohli. Jaffer used his official Twitter handle to share a photo of Kohli and Kane Williamson sitting alongside, adding Kohli wishing Williamson success ahead of the T20 World Cup final versus Australia. In response to Kohli, Williamson asks him for “any tips for the toss?”
Importantly, Kohli had an extended bit of bad luck with the toss during the T20 World Cup in the UAE, wherein he lost 3 consecutive tosses versus Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. In fact, prior to India’s match against Afghanistan, the Indian captain had failed with the toss 13 times in his previous 14 T20Is. After a string of misfortunes, he called right twice in quick succession, defeating Scotland and Namibia. Kohli got just 20 tosses in the 50 matches he captained India during his T20I era.
In the T20 World Cup, which was Kohli’s final task as India’s T20I captain before announcing his decision to quit after the contest, he also couldn’t take India much further than the Super12 phase, the first time the team had been knocked out as early as the group phase of an ICC event in the past 8 years.
India began their campaign with a 10-wicket defeat to Pakistan, backed by an 8-wicket defeat to New Zealand, which impacted their qualifying prospects. Even 3 consecutive wins over Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia, were insufficient for India, who expected Afghanistan to beat New Zealand in order to keep their chances alive. Unfortunately, the outcome did not favour India, prompting them withdrawal at the earliest opportunity.
The title match will be held on November 14 between Australia and New Zealand, both of which have yet to win the championship. Although this is New Zealand’s first final appearance in the T20 World Cup, Australia appeared in the 2010 season, when they finished as runners-up after dropping by 7 wickets to England.
