Virat Kohli has lost four Tests on the jog as Team India captain. On the other hand, India has won four of the five Tests his deputy Ajinkya Rahane has led in. After England’s massive 227-run victory in the series opener against India at Chennai, several experts feel Kohli will be under immense pressure in the second Test which starts at the same venue on February 13.
Monty Panesar : Team India Is Not Doing Well Under Kohli’s Captaincy
Former England spinner Monty Panesar, in fact, went to the extent of saying that Kohli could well relinquish leadership if India goes down in the second Test as well. “India have already lost four Tests in a row (under Kohli) and if the number goes up to five in the next match, then I think he will step down from his role,” Panesar told WION.
“Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen of all time, but the team is simply not doing well under him… I think Kohli will be under pressure and more now because Ajinkya Rahane has done phenomenally well as the captain.”

India set to host the next T20 World Cup, later this year, and also to play host in the next ODI World Cup, Kohli has a chance to lead India to glory. Former England spinner Monty Panesar recently stated that if Kohli fails to inspire his side to an ICC title in the next two marquee events, slated to be held in India, he might have to step down from captaincy.
“If India have a questionable series. If they don’t win the T20 World Cup, or the World Cup, because they’re both in India. I think after that Virat Kohli will have to step down. His captaincy is there but he definitely needs to win one out of the T20 or the World Cup in India,” Panesar told Sportskeeda
Virat Kohli took over from MS Dhoni to become the full-time captain of team India from early 2017 onwards. Since then, the national side has performed well under him across all formats. MS Dhoni clarified that he wanted the incoming skipper, Virat Kohli, to get enough time to prepare his team for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.
While India stand a chance to play the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final, at Lord’s later this year, the Men in Blue have so far failed to win any ICC title under Kohli. India’s last ICC triumph was in the 2013 Champions Trophy, under Dhoni. Questions will be on every fan’s mind that will we ever win a trophy under Virat Kohli’s captaincy or not.
