MVP in IPL 2023
It is the players in the mid-salary category that end up having the most impact in the IPL. These are the players who don’t always have the spotlight on them. They go about their business in a calm manner. But their effectiveness is what decides the fate of the team in the league. Let us look at the list of MVP in IPL 2023 in detail.
If these players put in consistent performances then their respective teams are bound to succeed. They don’t necessarily fetch a high number in the auction but have a bigger say on the field during the tournament.
We look at 7 such MVP in IPL 2023 between the 8-10 crores bracket:
#7 Tim David – 8.25 crores
The hard-hitting Australian batsman went for a whopping INR 8.25 crores in the mega auction last year. Tim David is the designated finisher of the side. David in his limited appearances last year showed what he brings to the table. He is difficult to stop once he gets going.
#6 Rahul Tripathi – 8.50 crores
He has been a constant in the IPL circuit ever since 2017. Rahul Tripathi has been a solid top-order batter for over 5 years now. He had a tremendous season with SRH in 2022. Tripathi is someone who can hit right from ball one. He is equally adept against both pace and spin. Tripathi was SRH’s MVP last year.
#5 Trent Boult – 8.00 crores
He is one of the most underrated seamers of the modern era. Trent Boult is a dangerous T20 customer, especially with the new ball. There is arguably anyone better than Boult when it comes to exploiting helpful conditions in the IPL. Boult is a much-improved death overs bowler too. He is certainly one of the MVPs in this bracket.
#4 Shubman Gill – 8.00 crores
There were question marks over his strike rate during his time with KKR. Shubman Gill though found a new home in Gujarat. He was the anchor around whom the Titans built their innings. Gill had a breakthrough 2022 season hitting championship-winning runs. He is destined for greater things in the future.
#3 Moeen Ali – 8.00 crores
He was the catalyst behind CSK’s resurgence in the IPL. It was Moeen Ali who provided CSK with the dash of fearlessness that they so dearly needed. Ali is a tremendous player of spin bowling. He is a handy customer with the ball too. There are very few players as useful as Ali in the T20 setup.
#2 Prithvi Shaw – 8.00 crores
He has the best strike rate among openers in the powerplay. Prithvi Shaw can finish the game in the first 6 overs itself. His uncomplicated approach toward batting puts the bowlers under immense pressure. He might not be the fittest of players that robs him of the star quality he richly deserves. But Shaw is a dynamite who explodes more often than not.
#1 Suryakumar Yadav – 8.00 crores
He is the world’s number T20I batter. Suryakumar Yadav doesn’t need further evidence to cement his status as an MVP. He was the lynchpin behind MI’s consecutive title wins in 2019 and 2020. His devil-may-care attitude makes him one of the greatest entertainers of the current generation.
