The final squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 has to be submitted on 10th October. Teams have the option to make changes up until that date. The Indian team has an option to make a few changes to its initially announced squad. There have been a lot of speculations and buzz surrounding who will make the final squad.
We look at 6 in-form IPL players whom India can add to their T20 World Cup 2021 Squade :
#6 Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad has arguably been the best Indian batsman on view in IPL 2021. He has been in scintillating form ever since he landed in the UAE. Gaikwad has presented a masterclass for openers in pacing their innings. His effortless hitting has won many games for CSK. He could be an ideal backup opener for India in the T20 World Cup.
#5 Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel has been fantastic right through IPL 2021. He is the leading wicket-taker currently this season. Patel has 29 wickets up until this point. He has overtaken the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar in terms of the number of wickets taken in a single season. His slow dipping Yorkers have caught batsmen unawares. As the World Cup is also scheduled in the UAE, it might be a wise call to include him in the mix.
#4 Shreyas Iyer
There was a lot of hue and cry surrounding Shreyas Iyer’s omission from India’s main squad. The selectors were apprehensive about his fitness as he was coming back from an injury. But Iyer has played beautifully ever since he has returned to the DC side. His dominance against spin in the middle-overs is a quality India will dearly need.
#3 Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan is close on the heels of Harshal Patel for the purple cap. He has arguably been India’s best seamer in this IPL season. His relentless pace and accuracy has tested the best of the batsmen. He has been almost unplayable at the death. Khan can be a valuable addition to India’s World Cup squad.
#2 Yuzvendra Chahal
The exclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal had raised many eyebrows. His form had been on the wane this year. But he seemed to have found his mojo in the series against Sri Lanka. Chahal arrived in the UAE with pressure squarely on him. To his credit, he has spun his magic around the batsmen. Chahal has been magnificent for RCB. He has halted many batting attacks in their tracks. His inclusion seems a given at this point in time.
#1 Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur was selected as one of India’s reserves in the World Cup squad. But his performance has been nothing of brilliant in the UAE leg. He has picked 2 wickets in almost every single game. He was the standout bowler in games where batters took apart the bowling. Thakur can be a great asset for the team in the World Cup.
