Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022
The Semifinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy took 2022 place on Thursday. In thrilling matches between Himachal and Punjab and Mumbai and Vidarbha, HP and Mumbai emerged victorious. The two teams will meet for finals on Saturday, Nov 5.
Let’s take a look at how the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 Semifinals played out:
Himachal Pradesh vs Punjab – 1st Semifinals of SMAT 2022
Himachal Pradesh Wins by 13 Runs
In the 2st SF, Himachal Pradesh beat Punjab by a score of 13 runs in the first semifinal at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, advancing them to their first-ever Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final.
HP vs PUN SMAT 2022: Himachal’s 1st Innings
HP was given the opportunity to bat first. They achieve a solid 176/7 from their 20 overs thanks to a brilliant half-century from Sumeet Verma and an equally outstanding 43 from Akash Vasisth. Shubman Gill got Punjab off to a good start, but they kept dropping wickets at regular intervals, falling short of the goal.
HP vs PUN SMAT 2022: Punjab’s Failed Chase
When Gill left the field one ball shy of the halfway point, Punjab was in trouble at 61/3. Gill had led the chase in the first half, scoring a 32-ball 45. They reach triple digits thanks to Anmolpreet Singh. But their dim prospects were temporarily revived by identical cameos of 29 off 15 from skipper Mandeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh later in the order.
The best bowler for Himachal, Rishi Dhawan, had figures of 3 for 25 from his four overs. But he struck at vital moments to cut off the thread. He struck again to end the burgeoning fourth-wicket partnership at 37 after getting Abhishek for a simple catch in the fourth over, and on the final delivery of the penultimate over, he struck again to end the hard-hitting Ramandeep’s innings. Punjab needed 29 off the last over, and the skipper Mandeep’s six and a four weren’t enough to get them there.
Mumbai Vs Vidarbha SMAT 2022: 2nd Semifinals of SMAT 2022
Mumbai Wins by 5 Wickets
The mighty Mumbai has finally succeeded in reaching the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final for the first time since the tournament’s establishment, as surprising as it may sound. In the second semi-final match on Thursday at Eden Gardens, they defeated Vidarbha by a margin of five wickets.
MUM vs VID SMAT 2022: Powered Mumbai’s Successful Chase
Shreyas Iyer‘s brilliant 44-ball 73, which featured seven fours and four sixes, made quick work of the chase while attempting to get a reasonably par total. After Prithvi Shaw (34 off 21) got out, Iyer maintained an optimistic attitude and frequently shattered boundaries. In the 14th over, he also destroyed Yash Thakur for 19 runs to give the pursuit credibility. Mumbai ultimately reached the goal of 165 with 19 balls remaining.
MUM Vs VID SMAT 2022: Vidarba’s Target
Vidarbha, who had elected to bat earlier in the evening posted 164 runs. They were shocked when they lost both of their top three batsmen in the first four overs. Spinner Shams Mulani struck twice in a span of 12 balls just after the powerplay ended, leaving them reeling at 68/4. Vidarbha appeared to post a score below average in the second half of the innings due to a lack of real impetus, but the ‘keeper-bat Jitesh Sharma had different plans for the team in the last over. He helped his team reach a respectable score by slamming Mohit Avasthi for three sixes off the last four balls
Mumbai never appeared in danger during the chase, despite losing Rahane cheaply in the second over. Shivam Dube, who had previously defeated Saurashtra in the quarterfinals with a boundary, capably and magnificently ended the match with a towering maximum over mid-wicket.
