2020 hasn’t been a great year by any means for anyone. The cricketing world too has suffered equally for the lack of cricket quality and quantity. In a year where T20 World Cup was scheduled to take place, ODIs took a backseat.
We at Stumpsandbails bring you a compilation of worst performers from whom the cricketing world had huge expectations.
#1 Jason Roy
Jason Roy was one of the key figures of England’s white-ball team which went on to lift the 50-over World Cup in 2019. His ability to go hard right from ball one makes him one of the best openers going around. But just as how 2020 has been difficult for many, it wasn’t any different for Roy. He scored just 102 runs in 9 matches aggregating a low 12.75. Not only his numbers were low but he struck them at a strike rate of 87.5 and his highest score was just 32.

#2 Mayank Agarwal
2020 presented Mayank Agarwal with a solid platform to establish his white-ball credentials in the 50-over format. But sadly Agarwal couldn’t cement his place in the Indian team, thanks to his below-par performances in the chances which he got. Agarwal could just aggregate a total of 86 runs in 5 innings averaging a measly 17.2. With the likes of Shubman Gill waiting in the wings for India, things certainly look tough for Agarwal at this stage.
#3 Joe Root
He is the bedrock of England’s batting unit. In a team gifted with flamboyant players, Joe Root brings in the much-needed solidity to the lineup. But even Root has found it difficult to get going in 2020. He could only amass 106 runs in 5 innings at an average of 21.2. People expect more from Root and will be certainly looking at his performance in 2020 as an aberration.

#4 Darren Bravo
Darren Bravo for long has been considered as the successor to Brian Lara. He is yet to fulfill his potential at the highest level but he certainly has the class to achieve success at the highest level. Bravo could only muster 63 runs from 3 games with the highest score of 39. The big-hitting West Indian will look to make amends in 2021.
#5 Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler is easily one of the best ODI players in the world. His fearless approach induces fear in the minds of the opposition. But 2020 hasn’t been kind to Buttler either. He could just score 12 runs from 3 games averaging in single figures (4). 2020 certainly seems an exception for England’s players.
#6 Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard was a force to reckon with in the T20 format. He was in red hot form in both CPL and the IPL this year. But the same couldn’t be said about Pollard’s form in 50-over cricket. Pollard played 6 ODI matches in 2020 and got to bat in five of them. Unfortunately, he could only score a total of 98 runs. He scored those runs at an average of 24.50.

#7 Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali was one of the important figures who were responsible for England’s resurgence in the 50-over format. Ali will be looking to forget 2020 in a hurry as he had a pretty average year. Ali could just conjure up 24 runs in 5 matches with a high score of 17 not out. He was not his usual self with the ball too managing to pick just 1 wicket.
#8 Jason Holder
Jason Holder played a crucial role in reviving SRH’s fortunes in IPL 2020. But the same can’t be said about Holder’s form in 50-over cricket. He could score just 23 runs and claim 3 wickets in his 3 ODI appearances. He will look to improve his ODI credentials in 2021.
#9 Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best fast bowlers going around across formats in cricket. But 2020 hasn’t been kind to him in the ODI format. Bumrah has struggled badly in the 50-overs format in 2020. He will be looking to put this year behind as soon as possible. Bumrah could just pick up 5 wickets in the 9 games he featured at a shocking average of 96.4.

#10 Keshav Maharaj
Keshav Maharaj isn’t a certainty in the 50-over format for South Africa. He picked a solitary wicket across 3 games he played at an alarming strike rate of 180. He will certainly hope that 2021 be much better.
#11 Kuldeep Yadav
He was once India’s main weapon in the 50-overs format. But his fortunes have dwindled pretty rapidly and 2020 was an abysmal low for Kuldeep Yadav. He could just pick up 6 wickets in 5 games at a very high average of 53.83.
