Stuart Broad Career Journey: One of the best fast bowlers of the current generation, Stuart Broad announced his shock retirement from all forms of cricket. He is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Ashes series and hence nobody saw this announcement coming. Broad combining with James Anderson has been a nemesis for most batters especially in English conditions. Let us look at Stuart Broad retirement and memorable moments in cricket.

#1 A fierce competitor
Stuart Broad will go down as one of the fiercest competitors in the modern game. He riled up opposition teams, fans, and players alike with his antics. In 2007 when he was still early into his international career he got into a verbal spat with Sourav Ganguly. Broad has pretty much channeled his inner beast when he gets into a confrontational mode with the opposition.
He famously didn’t choose to walk when he was caught at slips in an Ashes Test in 2013 in England. The Australian fans don’t fail to bring it up every time his name is mentioned. It is the art of staying ahead of your competition that brought out the best in him.
#2 An all-time Ashes hero
Stuart Broad is the only cricketer across both England and Australia who has played every home Ashes Test since 2009. In 40 Tests against Australia, Broad picked up 151 wickets at an average of 28.93 and a strike rate of 54.34. He was part of the famous series wins in 2009, 2013, and in 2015. England drew in 2019 while the ongoing series looks like might slip from their grasp. Broad continues to top the charts in this series. If weather permits a full final day, Broad will fancy his chance to draw the Ashes and finish on a high!
#3 The Bunny battle
Stuart Broad has had terrific player battles against the best batters in the world. He has dismissed David Warner 17 times making him his bunny. It is one of the many such head-to-head records that Broad dominates. He not only has had an upper hand over active cricketers but he was a force against many retired greats too.
Broad dismissed Shivnarine Chanderpaul 5 times, Brendon McCullum 6 times, Hashim Amla 8 times, and AB de Villiers 10 times. His Ashes bunnies comprise the who’s who of Australian cricket. He had the better of Shane Watson 8 times and Michael Clarke 11 times.
#4 The 8-15 in Trent Bridge
England was leading the series 2-1 heading into the fourth Test at Trent Bridge in 2015. Alastair Cook, the England captain had no hesitation in putting Australia into bat. Stuart Broad leading the attack in the absence of James Anderson bowled arguably the best Ashes spell of all time.
He completely ripped apart Australia in an unchanged spell of 9.3 overs. Broad picked up 8 wickets for just 15 runs. It took England just 18.3 overs to bundle out Australia. Broad’s ability to change the course of the game in a single session received validation of the highest order in this Test. It was Broad’s Nottingham in 2015!
