However, the impossible may occur, since Smith’s comeback may take some time. Steve Smith ready to sacrifice T20 World Cup.

Steve Smith Willing to Sacrifice ICC T20 World Cup for Ashes

Steve Smith ready to sacrifice T20 World Cup. For those who are unaware, Smith has been dealing with an elbow ailment that has caused him to withdraw from Australia’s forthcoming tours to the West Indies and Bangladesh. Smith would not rule out playing in the T20 World Cup when asked about his future plans. The top scorer batsman, on the other hand, has made it plain that he is willing to withdraw from the global tournament in order to be fully fit for the Ashes in Australia.

‘I Would Love To Be Part Of The World Cup, For Sure’: Steve Smith

“There’s still a bit of time between now and [the T20 World Cup], and I’m tracking okay at the moment – it’s slow, but I’m going okay. I’d love to be part of the World Cup, for sure, but from my point of view, Test cricket, that’s my main goal – to be right for the Ashes and try to emulate what I’ve done in the last few Ashes series I’ve been involved in,” Steve Smith said in an interview.

I want to put myself in a position where I can have that kind of impact. If that means not partaking in the World Cup, then we’ll have to go down that path, but hopefully, we don’t have to go there,” the second-ranked Test batsman added.

Smith was last seen playing for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which is presently suspended due to COVID-19. Though Rishabh Pant’s team was performing well in the competition, the former Australian captain didn’t appear to be in his form. With a strike rate of 111.82, he only managed 104 runs in six games. Smith admitted that he was bothered by elbow difficulties during that event. Furthermore, the 32-year-old was had to take medications each time mostly on the field.

“I still wasn’t quite 100 percent [during the IPL], it was still bothering me a bit, and I was playing over there medicated – taking some painkillers and anti-inflammatories every time I batted,” Smith mentioned.
