England, the ODI World Cup champion, is preparing for its upcoming New Zealand tour. They’re going to travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series starting on March 2020. After 2018, England will return to this Asian country for the first time.
The tour will begin on March 7 with a three-day warm-up match against the Sri Lankan Board President XI, followed by a first-class four-day fixture at Colombo’s P Sara Oval between March 12 and 15.
Sri Lanka set to host England in March
The Test series will begin on March 19 at the old fortress in Galle in Sri Lanka. Since 2015, Sri Lanka has lost only two tests at this venue and importantly their last defeat at this venue came against England in 2018.
The second Test will be played in the national capital Colombo at R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. The series will have 120 points at stake in the ICC World Test Championship. At the moment, the Sri Lanka Cricket Team is on their away tour to Australia to play a three-match of T20I series.
Sri Lanka is also scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against India before hosting the English team. It will be followed by two Tests against Zimbabwe, one against Ireland and three ODIs along with two T20Is against West Indies.
In the ICC Test Championship table, Sri Lanka is currently in third place while England placed fifth.
