On Thursday (30-04-2020), the sporting fraternity mourns the demise of the Bollywood superstar Rishi Kapoor, who at the age of 67 lost his life after a continuous two years struggle with leukemia. At the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, Rishi Kapoor breathed his last. At his last moment, his wife Neetu Kapoor was by his side.
Through a tweet, captain of India team Virat Kohli expressed his condolence for the demise. He quoted “ This is unbelievable and unreal. Yesterday Irrfan Khan and today Rishi Kapoor Ji. It’s really tough to accept the truth as a marvel died today. My deep condolence with his family and may his soul rest in peace.”
Apart from Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri, coach of India, and terrific batsman Shikhar Dhawan also took to their twitter handle to express their condolence towards the legend.
Ravi Shastri wrote “ It is shocking, to say the least. Always a laugh a minute. Never a boring moment with the star #RishiKapoor around. My thought and prayers are with Nitu ji, Ranbir, and Riddhima. May God bless his soul.”
Many retired cricket players including former spin bowler and head coach Anil Kumble and Pakistan legend Waqar Younis also expressed their condolence.
Waqar Younis added “ A dreadful week for Indian Film Industry. Heartbroken news. An era ends with your death but you will stay in our hearts forever. My condolence to the whole Kapoor family.”
Anil Kumble quoted “#RishiKapoor childhood hero…gone…deep condolence to his friends and family.”
Not only cricketers but also wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and Olympian Shiva Keshavan also expressed their deepest condolence on Twitter.
Rishi Kapoor debuted as a child actor in the film of his father Raj Kapoor- Mera Naam Joker (1970), for which he awarded in Filmfare. As an adult, his first film was Bobby in 1973 opposite Dimple Kapadia. For this film also, he got best actor award in 1974 Filmfare.
In between 1973 to 2000, he went on to play many romantic leads in 92 movies, and in the year 2008, he awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. He had done 12 movies with his wife Neetu Singh. They have two children, daughter Riddhima Kapoor and son Ranbir Kapoor, who is also a very famous actor.
