Spinners To Watch-out In IPL Auctions 2023: It is no secret that the pacers dominated the recently concluded T20 World Cup. But quality spinners did stand out with their skillset. They were the ones who proved to be a difference in middle overs. These spinners forced the batsmen to take undue risks.
IPL 2022 will be played in India, a venue that has traditionally favoured spin bowling. It is here wherein wicket-taking spinners will be in great demand. The mini-auction will have a few overseas options who will be going under the hammer.
We look at a Spinners To Watch-out In IPL Auctions 2023:
#4 Shakib Al Hasan
He showed his worth in the T20 World Cup 2022. Shakib Al Hasan continues to impress as a left-arm spin bowler. In a game that was on the line, Hasan bowled a decisive over against Zimbabwe. His ability to read the batsmen’s minds separates him from other left-arm spinners. He is right up there with the best in the business having pocketed the most number of wickets. Hasan is an effective top-order batter too. A team like KKR would be interested to acquire his services.
#3 Adam Zampa
He was arguably the player of the tournament in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Adam Zampa could have landed a huge deal in the mega auctions had he not walked out of IPL 2021. Teams were wary of picking him for IPL 2022. It is now safe to assume that teams will be keen to rope in Zampa. He is someone who isn’t afraid of being taken down.
Zampa clearly has his plans in place for every batter he comes up against. He has a proven record against top batters around the world. A team like SRH is in desperate need of a wrist spinner and will be eager to buy him in the auctions.
#2 Adil Rashid
One of the standout players in the T20 World Cup, Adil Rashid was almost unplayable in the knockouts. He held his own in a venue like Adelaide that had short square boundaries. Players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya failed to take him down.
Rashid outfoxed Babar Azam in the finals. He took out Mohammad Harris in his very first delivery. Shan Masood, a left-hander couldn’t counter Rashid. He is certain to fetch a huge number in the mini-auctions.
#1 Sikandar Raza
He surprised everyone with his wonderful showing in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Sikandar Raza managed to outwit former champions, Pakistan. His Sunil Narine-style bowling action caught many teams off-guard. Raza bowls at a pace that doesn’t allow the batters to get underneath the ball. He will be a tricky bowler to face in subcontinental conditions that aid spin bowling.
Raza is a wonderful striker of the ball down the order. He could be a valuable asset to any IPL side. Mumbai Indians clearly need a player of his calibre in their ranks. It will be interesting to see if they take the punt on Raza in the mini-auctions.
