Former Pakistan player Shoaib Akhtar has outright rejected the idea of the four-day Test matches which the International Cricket Council (ICC) had planned to start for the World Test Championship from 2023. According to the former Pakistan player, ICC cannot implement the idea without proper approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India which its president Sourav Ganguly won’t ever approve.
Shoaib Akhtar Gives His Views Upon The Four Day Test Match:
“The thought to start a four-day Test match is rubbish and no one should show their interest in it. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is an intelligent man, and he will not easily let this happen. He will not let the Test cricket to die,” Shoaib Akhtar gave this statement in a video posted on his Youtube channel.
“The ICC can not impose a four-day Test without BCCI’s approval. I would like to have extra players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India to come forward and raise their voice towards it. I would like legendary players from my nation to voice their opinion,” Akhtar added up.
Many former players like Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Glenn McGrath, and Ricky Ponting also expressed disagreement with the four-day Test match idea.
Indian team captain Virat Kohli also did not take much time in saying it is going to be unfair to the “purest format of the sport”.
