The world of cricket has taken a step back as the lethal COVID-19 disease has hit the IPL 2021. On Monday, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier from the Kolkata Knight Riders’ squad got tested positive for Coronavirus. The BCCI was forced to cancel the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders amid the following news. Another report suggests that 2 members from the Chennai Super Kings’ clan have also been tested positive. CSK have cancelled all their practice sessions till further notice.
IPL 2021: What will BCCI do next?
All the players were under the bio-bubble and there is a high risk that other’s might also test positive for COVID-19 soon. If this continues then BCCI will be forced to suspend the tournament until further notice. Last week, 3 Australian players pulled out of the tournament and returned to their respective country. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also left the Delhi Capitals’ squad to support his family member, who was tested positive for COVID-19.
BCCI were firm about their intention to continue with the league but looking at the current scenarios they might have to change their decision. Players will be demotivated to continue in the cash-rich league if it will directly put their lives at risk. BCCI is expected to make a decision soon as thousands of netizens are demanding the tournament to be shelved for now. The second wave of the COVID-19 has hit India very harshly. Every day thousands of people are being tested positive and India is marking hundreds of deaths with each proceeding day. However, IPL remains the only source of entertainment for the millions of fans who are locked inside their houses.
