Former world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar who actively comments about various issues on cricket has said that MS Dhoni should have retired after last year’s world cup without dragging it for so long.

Akhtar: Dhoni Should Leave Cricket With Dignity

He feels that the former captain should leave the game with dignity as he served the Indian cricket enough.

“This guy has served to the best of his ability. He should leave cricket with dignity. I don’t know why he dragged it for so long. He should have retired after the World Cup,” Akhtar told from Islamabad.

He further said he would have left cricket if he were in his place and he did it after the 2011 world cup as he was not 100 percent into the game.

“If I would have been in his place, I would have hung up my boots. I could have played shorter formats for three-four years but I left (after the 2011 WC) as I wasn’t into the game 100 percent. So why to drag?” he asked.

Akhtar also believes that Dhoni should get a nice send-off as he has won two world cups to India despite getting stuck in limbo now.

“As a country, you should let him go with a lot of respect and dignity. Give him a nice send-off. He has won you the World Cup and done wonders for India. He is a wonderful human being at the same time. But right now, he seems to be stuck,” he said.

“When He Could Not Finish The Game With New Zealand He Should Have Retired”

The former pacer known as Rawalpindi Express added that the right time for Dhoni to retire was last year when he could not lead India to win against New Zealand in the semi-final of the world cup.

“When he could not finish the game in the semifinal (against New Zealand). I felt he should have retired but he can only answer why he didn’t,” he said.

“He should have played a farewell series after the World Cup may be and then said goodbye in a manner befitting his great stature.”
