West Indies won 2nd and final T20 against Sri Lanka on March 6th at Pallekele Stadium and ended their tour of Sri Lanka with a sweep in T20. Even though the islander has faced the defeat, one Sri Lankan player showed his presence in making a remarkable catch which will be remembered forever. That catch not only made the audience mind-boggling but also raised the hopes of Sri Lanka people until Andre Russel came into the crease.
This happened during the 13th over when Rovman Powell played against Shanaka. When Dasun Shanaka delivered a slow ball, hitter Rovman Powell hit the ball towards a deep square leg region with ease to take the aerial route but he couldn’t manage. Shehan Jayasuriya who picked the catch to send the power hitter out of the ground. As the ball flies, Jayasuriya stepped back as far as possible as momentum took him. When he noticed he was near the boundary line with ball in his hand he just stopped what made him slip on the ground. Then with his presence of mind, he quickly gets rid of the ball and rolled on the ground by which his cap comes off and touched the Ad cushions. The decision was sent to the third umpire which is tricky but Jayasuriya looks confident. As a result of his confidence, the big screen showed OUT on the screen.
But the joy did not last long as the Rovman Powell dismissed windies strongman Andre Russel and entered the crease just to make it difficult for Sri Lanka bowlers. As soon as he entered, he started showing his powerpack performance with 14-ball 40, which led the team towards victory by seven wickets.
