Just after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which will be contested in the UAE and Oman, Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India’s head coach will come to an end. Many rumors have surfaced in recent weeks claiming that Shastri does not want to remain as head coach. A BCCI insider has stated that Shastri will always want to remain the head coach, but also his decision will be based on how well India plays in the T20 World Cup. Despite much anticipation, Shastri has remained silent on the subject.
“I don’t think Shastri doesn’t want to continue as head coach. He would always be keen on staying at the helm. But everything will depend on how team India performs in the T20 World Cup,” the BCCI official said while speaking to Media.
Dravid wants to stay the head of the NCA and BCCI respects his decision
The insider also stated that Rahul Dravid is not interested in becoming the Indian team’s head coach. He also said that the former Indian captain has shown an interest in staying on as the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Even Dravid’s term expires in September, and according to reports, therefore he has reapplied for the position, despite the BCCI extending the time for other individuals to apply.
“Yes, Dravid definitely doesn’t want to become the coach. He has hinted though that he wants to stay the head of the NCA only. BCCI respects his decision,” the official further added.
Dravid was appointed as India’s head coach for the 2nd string Indian team during the tour of Sri Lanka. There are few rumors that he might take over the post permanently.
