The 7th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been set to kick off on January 27 with a contest featuring Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing various challenges before the game’s beginning. Previously, approximately 8 personnel, along with a few players, screened positive for COVID-19. The board has a massive undertaking this year around in order to complete the whole schedule of the PSL in the midst of expanding COVID instances all across the nation. Furthermore, Pakistan’s all-rounder Shahid Afridi has came back positive for the virus and therefore will skip the Quetta Gladiators’ first game of the season.

Cricket Pakistan made this known, adding that Afridi will now be isolated for 7 days as per PCB policy before resuming the Quetta camp. However, he should only the bubble, when he gets a negative test.
It should be highlighted that Shahid Afridi departed the bio-secure bubble after experiencing back discomfort. On Wednesday morning, he left for a medical check-up, however, he came back later that same day. This is a major setback for the Quetta Gladiators, who will now be without the experienced for the initial games. The team’s first encounter is planned for Friday (January 28) versus Peshawar Zalmi, who are also dealing with COVID-19 cases in their camp.
Their captain, Wahab Riaz, and talented batsman Haider Ali, who had the virus not long ago, are both expected to miss the first match. Considering COVID instances, PCB has made provisions for the competition to go place this season. Matches will be played as scheduled as long as 12 players from each side are allowed. The Big Bash League (BBL) was also contested under the COVID shadow this season, with the final scheduled for January 28.
