Pakistan Cricketers Including The Likes Of Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz And Fakhar Zaman Among Others Have Tested Positive For Coronavirus:
Seven more Pakistan cricket team players have been testing positive for the novel coronavirus after Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf and Haider Ali. Pakistan Cricket Board ( PCB) confirmed that the seven players who tested positive for COVID-19 were Fakhar Zaman, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan and Wahab Riaz.
The players were screened in compliance with the required security procedure prior to the England tour of Pakistan this year in August. A total of 10 positive tests from the Pakistan cricket team have put the tour in jeopardy. Three players tested positive in Rawalpindi on Monday and were awaited for the results of the tests on other players.Masseur Malang Ali of Pakistan’s squad has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Over the last two days, 10 players have now tested positive that comes as a huge setback for PCB. However, Wasim Khan, CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has stated that the Men in England’s Green tour will continue as scheduled as all first-choice team players barring Mohammad Rizwan have tested COVID-19 negative.
“The tour is on track, squad will depart on the 28th as scheduled. Fortunately, all first-choice red-ball players, with the exception of Rizwan, are negative , meaning they can start training immediately after being tested & given everything clear when they arrive in the UK, “PCB CEO Wasim Khan said.
Pakistan is set to play a three-match Test series followed in August by as many T20Is in England. All the players who tested positive were told to separate themselves at home and could join the rest of the squad later. The results of 5 players tested in Rawalpindi had arrived earlier on Monday but were awaited for the results of others. Bowling coach Waqar Younis and veteran batsman Shoaib Malik are still undergoing tests.
The increased number of positive cases could derail Pakistan’s England tour which will cost the two boards an estimated loss of USD 90 million in revenues from broadcast.
