One of the greatest cricketers to have ever played the game, Sachin Tendulkar retired from top-flight international cricket on 16th November 2013. The “God of Cricket” bid adieu to the game at his home ground Wankhede stadium against West Indies which incidentally was also his 200th Test Match. Sachin Tendulkar’s last day in Test cricket is forever etched in memories for legions of fans across the world. And year after year fans tributes keeps on pouring for the “little master” on the special day.
Sachin Tendulkar Reveals Brian Lara’s Gift for Him
Remembering this occasion Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to talk about a special gift (A steel drum) he had received from his dear friend, Brian Lara, and the West Indies Cricket Board. Sachin Tendulkar was grateful to the entire West Indian team for presenting him with a special steel drum. He felt that this gesture from them showcased their love and respect for him.
He went on to disclose that his friend, Lara had visited his home, played the drum exclusively for him. The whole beat felt magical for the “little master”. Sachin Tendulkar himself played the drum later and termed the whole experience as brilliant.
Sachin Tendulkar, in the video, said “Exactly seven years ago, on this very day I was presented with this beautiful steel drums by the West Indian cricket board, the entire team and my dear friend Brian Lara. To me, this represents the Love and respect that you have had for me and I reciprocate that. Thank you so very much for the special gift,”
Tendulkar’s Friendship with Lara
He further voiced lyrical about Brian Lara and said, “I remember when Brian Lara had come home, he had played this and it sounded amazing. Let’s see if I can play a bit. I know it’s not gonna sound like that but this is my tribute to all of you. Thank you for everything that you have done for me,”
Lara and Tendulkar were always pitted against each other for the throne of being the best batsman of their generation. But the duo has never allowed competitiveness to creep into their friendship ever. Their bonhomie is an example of how two top class sportsmen should go about their work.
