Indian bowlers continued their good performance in the second Test of the ongoing three-match Test series against Bangladesh. The historic Day-Night Test at the iconic Eden Gardens got underway with a host of notable personalities from various domains gracing the big event. While there were initial doubts over how the pink cherry will play on the Eden Gardens track, Indian pacers put the speculations to sleep with a magnificent display, leaving Bangladesh clueless in the first session.
While the Indian pacers ran riot with the pink cherry, wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha also enjoyed a brilliant outing behind the stumps in the first session of the opening day. Saha was sharp, focused and showed outstanding reflexes as he pounced on anything thrown at him to save India some extra runs, with the ball gaining some unexpected movement early in the Bangladesh overs.
The opponent team was off to the worst possible start after winning the toss and opting to bat first as Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav hunted in packs. Ishant took the first wicket in the form of Imrul Kayes before Rohit Sharma took a one-handed stunner to send Mominul Haque back to pavilion in the 11th over.
Umesh then dismissed Mohammad Mithun in the same over for a duck before Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed on a duck by Shami. Saha then took an absolute blinder behind the wickets to dismiss Mahmudullah in the 20th over. It was a magnificent catch from Saha, who dived full stretch towards his right and managed to hold the ball between his thumb and forefinger.
Saha also achieved 100 dismissals as a wicket-keeper becoming the 5th India keeper to do so. He has won appreciation as the best wicket-keeper in the world from Indian captain Virat Kohli ahead of the three-match series against South Africa, earlier this year, and has proved his skipper right.
Bangladesh was struggling at 73/6 at Tea after a disheartening start on the opening day of the Day-Night Test.
