On Saturday, India’s stand-in captain Rohit Sharma admired the skills of Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, according to PTI (Press Trust of India) in the previous T20I match against Bangladesh in Rajkot. Chahal played a major role in India’s victory.
Both the left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal were left out of the T20I series against the West Indies and South Africa after the 50-over World Cup. The selectors did not pick them as they wanted to try out some fringe players ahead of the T20I World Cup next year.
Rohit Sharma said, “This is a very, very new unit. But Chahal, for the last two years, has been extremely consistent with how he has performed in white-ball cricket. Even in the ODI format, he has done extremely well for us,”
“He bowled well in the IPL, and then his performance got recognized and he was picked for the Indian team in the ODI format. Since then, he’s been one of the important members of the squad, and he’s proved that in this series, how important he can be in the middle overs.” Rohit added.
Rohit feels Chahal is completely different from other legspinners as his ability to overthink batsman in the last match kead him to take two major wickets in the same over in Rajkot, Mushfiqur Rahim and Soumya Sarkar,
Hitman said “He knows what he’s trying to do, and he exactly knows what the batsman is trying to do. He’s basically trying to stay ahead of the game, ahead of the batsman. That makes him a little more challenging for any batsman. He has understood that really well, and he’s got variation and skills.”
