The outbreak of coronavirus has affected the ongoing Road Safety World Series. The remaining matches of the series, in which legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are there, all the players have to play behind closed doors, in the light of coronavirus threat.
This means that any spectator will not be allowed into the stadium and the matches will be played in empty stadiums.
The matches that were supposed to be played at MCA stadium Gahunje Pune are canceled and moved to D.Y.Patil Stadium Mumbai.
The organizers of the tournament have issued a statement regarding the changes which read, “As a consequence of the ongoing health emergency in the country, all stakeholders of the Road Safety World Series have decided that all remaining matches of the Road Safety World Series will be played behind closed doors at the D.Y.Patil stadium starting March 13, when South Africa Legends take on Sri Lanka Legends in a revised schedule.”
The statement also added, ” Due to the outbreak of coronavirus and the escalating number of cases in Maharashtra, the organizing committee unanimously agreed that the third leg of the series, which was scheduled to be held in Pune from March 14 to 20, 2020 is now relocated to D.Y.Patil stadium and played behind closed doors along with remaining games at the same venue and the final.”
As per the previously released schedule, the tournament was supposed to be held in 4 legs with matches taking place across 4 venues such as Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), D.Y.Patil Stadium (Mumbai), Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune), and Brabourne Stadium (Mumbai).
But now the Pune leg has been relocated to D.Y.Patil Stadium Mumbai, along with all the other remaining matches.
Maharashtra has reported 10 cases of coronavirus until now, with India reporting 60 cases. With the intention of preventing further spread of the disease, the organizers have taken this step.
