The Road Safety World Series is a Twenty20 tournament featuring retired cricketers. The Road Safety Cell of Maharashtra came up with this concept. Players and teams are stylised as “legends” of their respective countries.
Resumption of the tournament:
The Road Safety World series received approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sachin Tendulkar (India Legends), Brian Lara (West Indies Legends) Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka Legends), Brett Lee (Australia Legends) and Jonty Rhodes (South Africa Legends) are the captains of the respective teams.
The tournament featured a round-robin format. Post the league stage, the top two teams will play the final. But owing to the global coronavirus pandemic, the government of India had called off the tournament. The remaining seven matches were rescheduled for a later date. It was earlier decided that the remaining seven matches of the tournament would be played behind closed doors in DY Patil Stadium.
The tournament hits a resume button:
The series will now be starting on 5th March 2021 and will last till 21st March 2021
The organisers had the option to start the tournament afresh. But they have instead decided to resume the previous edition, as it was paused after only four games.
Four teams – India Legends, Sri Lanka Legends, South Africa Legends, and West Indies Legends – resumed action in 2021, whereas England Legends and Bangladesh Legends replaced the Brett Lee-led Australia Legends, who withdrew from the tournament due to their inability to travel to India owing to the strict COVID-19 restrictions in Australia.
Kevin Pietersen continues his banter with Yuvraj Singh:
Kevin Pietersen landed in Raipur, India for the tournament. He will be representing England legends alongside Ryan Sidebottom, and Monty Panesar. Kevin Pietersen just like other players will need to undergo quarantine. The players will then undergo COVID-19 tests and return a negative result for them to feature in the league.
Yuvraj Singh, part of the India legends team posted a picture about environment conservation. Pietersen swiftly took a jibe at Singh’s post. Pietersen responded saying this is the place where most of his deliveries will land.
The duo it seems have carried forward their banter which was so evident during their playing days. Pietersen had famously called Yuvraj Singh a pie chucker. The playful jibes refuse to die between the two.
