Former Australian Captain Ricky Ponting is having a great time at Delhi Capitals. The team has performed really well this season – Under his mentorship, they’ve won 6 out of 8 matches this season. Last year, Delhi Capitals reached the final of the cash-rich league and have emerged as one of the favorites to win the tournament.
Ricky Ponting shares a great relationship with all the players and recently he has opened up his relationship with Marcus Stoinis. He noticed that the right-hander is a very deep thinker, which is why he does not want to feed him too much information. The 46-year-old pointed out how Stoinis hasn’t been able to nail down a spot in the Australian team with many good batsmen in the line-up.
“With Australia, he’s been in and out of the side, and not really found a spot in the batting line-up. I’ve tried to make it pretty clear to him where I see him slotting in with the Delhi Capitals outfit and the role he’s going to play for us,” Ponting said.
Ponting also mentioned how he loves to perform all-rounder role. He believes that players don’t need to interfere more often while only correcting if they’re going wrong anywhere.
“He is a hard worker. He likes to bat and bowl as much as anyone we’ve had at Delhi. So as long as I give some clear direction and he understands what he’s doing and what his role is, I just let him go about getting himself prepared. I’ll only interfere with players’ preparation if I think they’re bludging and they’re not doing the right thing,” Ponting said.
Delhi Capitals will be seen playing on 22nd September against Sunrisers Hyderabad who is currently out of form. They’re currently on top of the table with 12 points and need 2 wins to secure their qualification in the top 4.
