Ravi Bishnoi received his first Team India call-up on Wednesday (January 26), and celebrations began outside his Rajasthan home. The youthful leg-spinner has been called up for the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies, which will begin at home on February 6. Bishnoi has had an outstanding start to his professional career, having represented India in the 2020 U19 World Cup. He is projected to go far in his career. Bishnoi, unlike traditional leg-spinners, does not give the ball a lot of air. He likes to swing the ball into the stumps, and this strategy has brought him a lot of success. Bishnoi concluded the 2020 U19 World Cup with the most wickets (17 in six matches) as the Boys in Blue proceeded to the final.

I have learned a lot from Anil sir: Bishnoi
His statistics in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are also impressive. In the previous two editions, the 21-year-old has taken 24 wickets in 23 matches for Punjab Kings, with an economy rate of under 7. Bishnoi’s inclusion was foreseen after Indian spinners struggled in the previous ODI series versus South Africa, and the BCCI confirmed it on Wednesday.
Meantime, for the ODI leg, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal are the other spinner possibilities on India’s side. As a result, it’s unlikely whether Bishnoi, who will play for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022, will make the playing XI.
The BCCI, while making the announcement on Twitter, also added: “Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami has been rested from the series. KL Rahul will be available from the 2nd ODI onwards. R Jadeja is undergoing his final stage of recovery post his knee injury and will not be available for the ODIs and T20Is. Axar Patel will be available for the T20Is.”
Ravi Bishnoi praises Anil Kumble after receiving his first India call-up: “I have learned a lot from Anil sir, and those lessons have helped me in becoming a better cricketer. He would always guide me on how to back myself and never lose hope under pressure. Those things were of immense help. He always told me to play to my strengths. The advice was that I should stick to my basics and just execute the plans. There was no experiment. He gave me the confidence to play freely,” Bishnoi told.
