India’s jersey for T20 World Cup 2022 was unveiled recently. The jersey is a welcome departure from the regular ones that the team has been donning. It is a combination of azure and royal blue. The team will be wearing these jerseys in the series against Australia and South Africa too. It will be refreshing to see them don a different jersey in the wake of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
We rank India’s T20 World Cup jersey over the years:
#7 2009 & 2010 T20 World Cups
It was for the first time in many years that the team had donned a dark shade of blue. The collar was designed in orange colour while there was the tricolour embedded on one side. India wore this jersey for two consecutive T20 World Cups in 2009 and 2010. Their performance in both these World Cups was below-par. India failed to qualify for the knockouts.
#6 2012 T20 World Cup
This jersey bore a stark resemblance to India’s ODI World Cup winning jersey in 2011. India switched to wearing a light blue colour jersey for this edition. The design of the flag being on one side remained albeit a bit subtler this time around. India lost just a single game in the entire tournament but it was enough for them to get knocked out.
#5 2014 T20 World Cup
India stuck to a similar template as of 2012 with just a few minor additions. The country’s name was more pronounced this time around with it appearing in the middle of the jersey. India had their second-best T20 World Cup as they finished runners-up in that edition.
#4 2021 T20 World Cup
It was a forgettable T20 World Cup for the team. India lost their first two games against Pakistan and New Zealand to crash out of the competition. Their next three wins counted for little as the damage had already been done. India’s jersey though different, didn’t find takers at that moment owing to the team’s on-field performance. But it was one of the most distinguished jerseys in recent times.
#3 2016 T20 World Cup
India experimented well with the jersey in this edition. It was the home T20 World Cup for the country. India wore a jersey that had beautiful stripes of orange across the top half of the jersey. It sat well on most members of the team. India was knocked out in the semis at Wankhede in Mumbai.
#2 2022 T20 World Cup
From wearing the darkest possible blue colour a year before, India has gone the other way this time around. The jersey for this edition is a wonderful combination of light (front) and dark blue (shoulders). It represents a billion fans spanning different geographies. The jersey is right up there with any the team has sported so far.
#1 2007 T20 World Cup
Captain, MS Dhoni, removing his jersey and handing it to a young fan post the T20 World Cup win remains an iconic moment in Indian cricket. It is primarily owing to this reason that this jersey tops this list. The team sported a light blue jersey with the flag being a prominent feature on jersey.
