Shreyas Iyer Will Lead Delhi Capitals In IPL 2020:
Delhi Capitals Skipper Shreyas Iyer said the inclusion of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin will add a great deal of depth to the franchise team for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Rahane played for Rajasthan Royals last year, while Ashwin led Kings XI Punjab.
“Our cricket brand has been competitive and enthusiastic, and that’s how we are as a team. The inclusion of Rahane and Ashwin brings a great deal of versatility to our side and gives Ricky and me the chance to be versatile with our playing XI, depending on the opposition we ‘re playing,” Iyer said in a video posted on IPL’s official website.
“These are both individuals who are highly knowledgeable about the game and have captained IPL teams, so as a captain, this is an opportunity for me to use their expertise and reach out to them anytime I need any support,” he added.
On Saturday, the Control Board for Cricket in India ( BCCI) reported that 13 employees, including two players, had tested positive for COVID-19. However, the Board did not indicate which team had the number of reported cases. The identity of the players and the staff has also not been disclosed.
“13 personnel tested positive, of which 2 are athletes. All affected personnel, as well as their close associates, are asymptomatic and isolated from other members of the team. They are being monitored by the IPL Medical Team,” the BCCI said in an official statement.
Both players and team members are expected to undergo a six-day quarantine period after arriving in the UAE, and three times each player must be screened for COVID-19. If all of them have been screened negative for COVID-19, players will start training in the UAE with their teammates. Delhi Capitals has already started their practice as all involved tested negative for COVID-19.
This season, the afternoon and evening games will be played half an hour earlier than normal.
