On Day 1 of the IPL 2022 super auction, both the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) invested a large sum of money to improve their respective sides. The Mumbai outfit paid a big sum of 15.25 crore to acquire Ishan Kishan.

They also paid 3 crore to bring on Dewald Brevis. The PBKS also paid a lot of money to get two batsmen. They bought Shikhar Dhawan for 8.25 crore and another 6.75 crore for Jonny Bairstow.

The Kings paid a further 9.25 crore to sign South African bowler Kagiso Rabada, and a sum of 9 crore to sign all-rounder Shah Rukh Khan. They also paid 5.25 crore and 3.8 crore to acquire Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar, accordingly.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) kept four players before the IPL auction, whereas the Punjab Kings (PBKS) retained only two. Although Mumbai retained captain Rohit Sharma, bowler Jasprit Bumrah, batsman Suryakumar Yadav, and all-rounder Kieron Pollard, Punjab kept opening batsman Mayank Agarwal as well as left-arm pace bowler Arshdeep Singh. Day 2 of the IPL mega auction will take place on February 13th, 2022, with all franchises looking to build their teams prior to the 15th season of the IPL.
