Players Eager To Have IPL This Year:
Due to coronavirus pandemic, the world may be in lockdown, but cricket players around the globe have made it clear that they would love to have IPL this year, even if not immediately. And in a podcast hosted by Rajasthan Royals, skipper Steve Smith said the same thing to Ish Sodhi.
“There’s pandemic going on all over the world right now, but hopefully at some stage, we can get an IPL. The two seasons I captained the Royals were both half seasons, I was offered the captaincy by Shane Watson in 2015 and then last year out of the blue I took over at the back end of the season. Looking to take a full-time shot at it and the Royals have a pretty good squad, “he said.
Rajasthan Royals teammate Jos Buttler thinks it’s a “big shame” that due to the coronavirus outbreak, the lucrative T20 tournament can not be held right now. The 13th edition is postponed until April 15 and there are also bleak chances that it will be held in the near future.
Buttler hopes IPL will be slotted later in the year. “I don’t know more than you do when IPL will be played or people are thinking about how it should be moved back. At the moment everything is very uncertain because nobody knows how long it will last. So, it can’t be determined whether it could or couldn’t happen at the moment, “Buttler quoted.
“According to the tournament’s significance, this is a massive, massive event. The revenue that is part of the IPL is huge. Cricketing is very significant competition and it’s a huge shame that it’s not moving forward or that it has the way to push it in the schedule and encourage it, “he added.
