PCB ready to play spoilsport for IPL 2020 in the name of Asia Cup:
As announced on Tuesday by a leading sports website, the tentative dates for the Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL 2020) are set for 26 Sep to 8 Nov. As the T20 World Cup host Cricket Australia has declared that this year’s event looks ‘unrealistic,’ the chances of IPL 2020 have increased further. But still somebody’s ready to play an IPL 2020 spoilsport.
The Pakistan Cricket Board ( PCB) has announced that they will not require at any expense the substitution of the Asia Cup scheduled for September by IPL 2020. InsideSport has been disclosed by PCB sources that the Pakistan board will not vacate the Asia Cup T20 window for IPL 2020 in September.
The leading sports website further disclosed by the source that PCB also wrote to ACC President Nazmul Hassan to convene a teleconference in September to finalize the location and timetable for the T20 Asia Cup.
“Why PCB should let go of ASIA Cup T20 window for domestic league purposes. At the last teleconference the Asia Cup T20 will be held as planned and agreed between the participants. It is relevant and vital for PCB ‘s finances as well as for ACC member boards’ growth, “the PCB source said.
“Our position is absolutely clear, the Asia Cup is scheduled for September, and the only reason it shouldn’t occur is continued health safety issues. We won’t accept that the Asia Cup is being moved to accommodate the IPL, “Wasim Khan said a leading sports news channel.
Additionally, the source revealed to InsideSport that ACC member boards have already informally zeroed down on Colombo as the venue for the T20 Asia Cup. It need only be ratified at the next teleconference. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka cricket (SLC) has also confirmed once again that they have begun preparing for the T20 Asia Cup in Colombo.
“We had a chat with PCB and because of the present world situation they have already decided to host this version of ours. We had an ACC conference online (8 June) and they sent us the green light to host the tournament, “Shammi Silva said. He said, “We are now planning to discuss the organizing of the event with the government and have formed a detailed strategy by including medical officials about how to organize the event in compliance with the Covid19 Health Regulations.”
