The much anticipated three-match Test series featuring India and South Africa will begin on 26th December in Centurion. Meanwhile, SA has just been received a big blow before the first match, as their in-form bowler Anrich Nortje has been pulled out of the entire series. Cricket South Africa shared the news on their official Twitter, citing a “persistent injury” as the cause of Nortje’s absence from the series. Here is Why Anrich Nortje was Ruled Out Of the India Tests
Anrich Nortje Ruled Out Of India Tests
Nortje has been an exceptional bowler for the SA across all forms in recent years. He’s been picking up wickets on a consistent basis and would have been vital versus India. It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready for the 3-match ODI series that follows.
Nortje, 28, has taken 47 wickets including 3 five-wicket hauls in just 12 Tests. He was also outstanding at the T20 WC last month when South Africa almost lost out on a semi-final spot owing to a lower net run rate. Nortje also performed admirably for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL during the previous two seasons, earning a contract extension for INR 6.5 crore.
However, the CSA has chosen not to pick a substitute for Anrich Nortje in the Test series. Kagiso Rabada, Beuran Hendricks, Duanne Olivier, Sisanda Magala and Glenton Stuurman are the other pacers in the team. Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder are two more pace-bowling all-rounders who might be selected.
Considering Rabada and Olivier possibilities and Mulder very certain to feature, who makes a pass as the starting XI’s 3rd seamer. Sisanda Magala has a fair chance due to his performance in the home circuit. So far, he has played in one ODI and four T20Is. Beuran Hendricks could also participate since he adds much-needed balance to the assault.
