Muralitharan is widely considered to be one of the best bowlers in history. Sri Lanka’s bowling messiah has 800 wickets in his belt after 133 Tests. When he was at home, he took 412 wickets in 59 matches for Sri Lanka that ended in a victory or a tie. Tendulkar told us that when his hand is taken up, his thumb is visible: Sehwag
“The most dangerous bowler I played against and who scared me the most was Muttiah Muralitharan. It took me 7-8 years to tackle Murali in international cricket, from 2001-2007. Whenever I used to play against Sri Lanka, I always used to fear Murali,” Sehwag said in an interview.
Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag enjoyed a game of cricket alongside. They both contributed to India’s wins by stitching in some significant opening partnerships. The batsman went on to say that even if he played the Sri Lankan spinner presently, it would still wake him up. Sehwag went on to say that he was unable to understand Muralitharan’s innings and that Sachin Tendulkar subsequently taught him how to understand the spinner’s bowling.
“Even today if I had to play Murali, I would not sleep at night. Because his action is so dangerous that I do not understand which one he will put off-spin and which one would be the doosra. Once Sachin Tendulkar told us that when his hand is taken up, his thumb is visible. If the thumb is seen then you can pick up that it is the doosra,” Sehwag added.
