Washington Freedom vs San Francisco Unicorns Match Preview
Washington Freedom (WAF) lost their first game to the only undefeated side in the competition (SEO). They bounced back in their second game prevailing over a fancied TSK side. WAF will now come up against the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) in match number 11 of MLC 2023.
It will be the third game on the trot at Church Street Park in Morrisville. SFU is one of the three sides to have posted two wins so far. A win here will consolidate their position in the league table. WAF will hunt for two crucial points in this game.
WAF vs SFU Proven performers
#1 Matthew Short
He is one of the few openers in the tournament to post a big score. Matthew Short put on a spectacular show against the Texas Super Kings. He almost singlehandedly ensured WAF get to a par score. Short scored 80 runs off 50 balls striking at 160. He hit a total of 58 runs in boundaries (10 fours and 3 sixes). Short looked at ease against both pace and spin. He is talked up as one of the most powerful strikers of the cricket ball. Short will need to consistently deliver for his side in the coming games.
#2 Liam Plunkett
He was England’s enforcer in the middle overs during their successful campaign in the 2019 World Cup. Liam Plunkett’s plan is always pretty simple. He resorts to bowling a back-of-a-length delivery cramping up batters. He put on a solid show in the game against MINY. Plunkett returned with figures of 2-30 conceding runs at 8.50 per over.
In a 10-per-over game, his economical bowling stood out too. As the wickets in the tournament get slower with every passing game, Plunkett’s lengths will become even more effective.
WAF vs SFU Players to watch out for
#1 Marco Jansen
The tall left-arm seamer is an exciting talent. Marco Jansen has proven himself at the international level in his brief career so far. His high-arm action and awkward angle make it difficult for batsmen to counter him. Jansen had a good game against TSK troubling both the top and lower order. He picked up 2 wickets for 31 runs conceding runs at 7.80 per over. Jansen will prove to be a valuable asset for WAF in the tournament.
#2 Shadab Khan
There are very few players as enterprising as Shadab Khan in the modern game. The wrist-spinning allrounder is one of the most impactful players in world cricket in the T20 format. Khan has been in his element in the tournament. He put up a magnificent performance in the game against MINY. Khan scored 61 off just 30 balls with the bat. He later returned to pick up a wicket albeit he was expensive. Khan’s all-round utility will serve SFU well going ahead in the competition.
WAF vs SFU Match prediction
Both teams will be hungry to secure two points from this game. SFU has the luxury of 2 wins as compared to WAF’s only win so far. This match could well prove to be decisive in the final outcome of the tournament.
