Michael Holding, the West Indies legend broke down:
Michael Holding, a legend of the West Indies felt depressed while discussing the racism problem at the time of an interview with Mark Austin. On Wednesday (08-07-2020), the spectacular pace bowler made a passionate appeal. In this appeal, he requested the whole society to change their mindset towards racism. All these things happened on the 1st day of England Vs West Indies Test match in Southampton.
On Thursday (09-07-2020), while giving an interview and discussing on the same topic, Michael Holding said that he became emotional thinking about his parents. The former pacer of West Indies said “Honestly, when I began to think about my parents, I got emotional. And that emotion is coming again now also.”
While giving an interview, he took a pause for a moment as he controlled his tears and said “Mark, I know very well that what my parents had gone through. My mother’s side family stopped talking with her just because my father was too dark. I can feel what they had gone through at that time, and that emotion came back to me immediately.”Holding said and wiped his tears from his eyes.
After seeing Holding like this the reporter told if he believes that time has come when things should start to change. Austin asked, “It may be the time that changes the things?”
Holding responded “Well, we know that it is a very slow process, but I hope. Even if it is a small step at a time, even a baby’s step. But I am hoping that it will proceed in the right direction. Even it happens in snail’s speed, I don’t care.”
Furthermore, Holding added “I hope now people are getting to understand what I am trying to convey, and exactly where I am coming from. Now my age is 66. I have gone through this racism issue, I have seen all those things from my childhood and I have also experienced with other individuals. It shouldn’t be continued like this- we have to understand the thing that all people are equal and people are people.”
