Glenn Maxwell is doubtful whether he will play in Australia’s tour of Pakistan, which was scheduled and confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on 08 November. Maxwell noted that the March-April slot, which has been set for the tour, is also the exact time for him and his fiancee Vini Raman’s wedding, which has no chance of being postponed according to Maxwell.
Maxwell engaged to Raman in March 2020, but the pair have had to postpone their wedding many times due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the consequent limitations.
In what would have been Australia’s first visit to Pakistan in 24 years, the team will play 3 Tests, as many ODIs, and a T20I. The series, unfortunately, is subject to the security clearance of a Cricket Australia committee, which will visit Pakistan later this year to oversee the procedures before granting the players final consent.
I’m going there or not might probably hinge on my fiancee: Maxwell
“I think it’s great that we’ve got a tour to go back there. I think I saw it was 1998 the last time we went there,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
“Whether I’m going there or not might probably hinge on my fiancée because my wedding is supposed to be on during that time. So I’m probably not quite the right person to ask that question.”
When asked if his fiancee would consider rescheduling the wedding, Maxwell said, “Not a chance. We’ve already moved it a couple of times so I think this is it.”
Furthermore, Maxwell is now with the starting eleven in the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, wherein Australia will confront Pakistan in the second round on November 11. Maxwell is yet to hit the floor running in the World Cup, as he did for his Royal Challengers Bangalore club during the 2021 IPL.
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed: Maxwell
When asked about his form, he stated that he has not spent enough time in the middle. “I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but I’ve got two not outs back-to-back which is pretty rare in my career,” he said.
“It means the top order is going really well if I’m not spending that much time out there. I’ve been in a really good head-space so hopefully (I’m) not required again or hopefully required for another zero not out and just stay at the other end.”
