Current Form: Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants are the only team this season who haven’t lost two games in a row. It speaks volumes about their consistency. LSG began the tournament on a losing note, incidentally, they lost to fellow newcomers, the Gujarat Titans. They then went on to win 3 games in a row. At the halfway stage, LSG had 4 wins from 7 games. They were pretty much part of the middle muddle.

It was at this juncture that LSG upped their game. They have silently gone about doing the process right. LSG has unearthed many gems this season. The discovery of Mohsin Khan is one such moment of sporting glory. Khan, the tall left-arm fast bowler has been a revelation. He has troubled the best of batsmen. Avesh Khan’s continuous rise has augured well for LSG. They have now won 4 games on the trot. With a resounding win over KKR, they are the new table-toppers.

Current Form: Gujarat Titans

If the fans of Gujarat were told that their team would sit pretty at second position post 11 games, then they might not have believed it. It has been such a ride for the Titans where they have pretty much proved everyone wrong. Right from the first game, Gujarat has been on the money. They became the first team in IPL history to win 8 out of their first 9 games. Their winning run was unprecedented. They found match-winners in every game.

Gujarat won three games in a row. They lost to SRH in their fourth game. GT then went on to win 5 in a row. They looked unstoppable at this point. But two back-to-back losses in the last two games have given them the reality check. It just goes on to show any team can beat anyone in this league. Hence their consistency so far has to be lauded. Owing to the slip-up in the last two games, GT is now placed second in the standings. If they win against LSG, they have the chance to reclaim the crown.

The stakes:

It can’t get any better than this, two unheralded sides fighting for the top spot. LSG is on a red-hot winning streak. They have valuable experience playing at this venue. The Gujarat Titans have to bring on their A-game to dislodge LSG from the top spot. We can’t wait for the game to begin!
