New Zealand won the WTC Finals in style with their all-around performance – Kyle Jamieson won the player of the match award after picking up 7 wickets in both innings. Jamieson picked up Virat Kohli’s wicket in both innings with a leg before in the first innings and caught behind in the second innings. Let’s discuss Whom Did Virat Kohli’s Dismissal Reminds
Whom Did Virat Kohli’s Dismissal Reminds
Sunil Gavaskar and Nasser Hussain discussed Virat Kohli’s dismissals on day six of the ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand in Southampton.
On Day 6, the Indian team needed a good start from Pujara and Kohli to get the Indian team going. During the 6th over of the 2nd innings, Virat Kohli played a late shot away from his body and that resulted in nicking the ball to the keeper and it was an easy catch for BJ Watling, who was playing his last Test match.
Nicking behind the wicket reminded Naseer Hussain of 2014’s Virat Kohli during the tour of England. James Anderson was toying around Virat Kohli in 2014 and Indian batsmen had a nightmare in that tour. Hussain said, “the early dismissal of Kohli’s shot brought back memories of India’s 2014 tour to England”.
“Little bit more like 2014 and not the one of 2018. That was the sort of line that James Anderson troubled him in 2014. He left those last time around when he played in England,” Hussain said on commentary.
Kohli’s otherwise illustrious Test career has been overshadowed by the 2014 visit to England. Kohli had performed pretty bad in five Tests during the tour, averaging 13.50 in his 10 innings. On the other hand, the Indian skipper had turned it out in 2018, when he struck two centuries.
Former Indian Batsmen Gavaskar derived Kohli’s dismissal to the lack of foot movement. “His backfoot didn’t move and he committed himself to the shot,” Gavaskar said.
Virat Kohli has now lost consecutively in ICC tournaments. There is no glory for the India post-2013 champions trophy – which was led by MS Dhoni.
