Kohli’s term as India’s T20I captain finished following the team’s last league match in the T20 World Cup 2021 versus Namibia. Despite Kohli’s T20I captaincy quest did hardly conclude on a high note, his hitting records and statistics remain unsurpassed. In a similar way, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag stated that it would be incorrect to point out Kohli ‘s spot in the T20 side.
The 33-year-old has been leading the Indian team across all forms over years and that he wanted to regulate his workload easier, thus he has given up the leadership in one format. He may not be a skipper, but he will undoubtedly continue to contribute to the team as a strong hitter.
“No matter how many youngsters come, there won’t be another Virat Kohli. With the kind of consistency, he displays with the bat, even in this current side, it won’t be right to question his place in the T20 set-up. He will continue to play T20I for as long as he wants,” said Sehwag.

Moving ahead in the debate, legendary Indian bowler Ashish Nehra backed Sehwag’s comments. Nehra believed that no batter could provide India with the strength and solidity as Kohli does at number three. Nehra examined the need for a mix of expertise and young in the group.
“No one will give you stability in the batting unit better than Virat Kohli. You can’t just load your batting unit with power-hitters, you need a combination of experience and youth,” added Ashish Nehra.
When it comes to Kohli, he currently holds the record for most runs scored in T20Is throughout the world, with 3227 within only 87 innings. His average of 52.05 and strike rate of 131.91 portray the picture of the batter he is. Though Kohli is yet to win a trophy, both in India and with RCB (IPL), the approach he handled the men in blue will be remembered forever in history.
