India’s blitzkrieg batsman Rohit Sharma on Thursday said the 13th edition of IPL for the year 2020 might take place, the health conditions related to Coronavirus starts becoming better in the country.
These statements from Rohit Sharma came in, during a live chat interaction with England’s batsman Kevin Pietersen on Instagram. During the interaction, Pietersen asked the Sharma, if the tournament would happen in India. To which Rohit Sharma replied, “Things will not remain the same as what it is now. It will get settle down at one point or the other. Who knows after that, the authorities might plan the IPL 2020 tournament.”
Earlier this month, the Board Cricket Control Of India (BCCI) had suspended the 13th edition of the IPL 2020 season which was scheduled to start on 29th March this month. This decision was taken in light of the spread of Coronavirus infection which has shaken the health system of the complete world. And the mass gatherings during the matches would trigger the spread of this infection. The IPL 2020 tournament remains suspended till 15th April, until the lockdown period of 21 days ended.
BCCI’s Course Of Action:
In an official statement BCCI, earlier this month said, “The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about the health of the public and stakeholders in general. It would take all the measures, that all its fans and cricketers who would take part in the tournament have a safe tournament in the season, and the fans have the best cricketing experience.”
The statement further said, the BCCI would work in adherence with the guidelines issued by the Union government and the sports ministry to keep a check on the spread of COVID 19 Infection.
Statistics Of COVID 19 Infection In India:
According to recent statistics issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare altogether there has been 694 COVID 19 cases have been reported in India. Out of all the reported cases, 16 deaths have occurred due to the infection, 42 cases have been cured/ discharged and 593 active cases still persist.
