The sixth week of IPL saw mostly one-sided games. Teams coasted to wins on the back of some strong performances. It was such a strange week where except for one game all games had one clear winner. The result was a mere formality post the halfway stage of the second innings. Wickets slowing down also played a key role in the way these games panned out. But week six of IPL has set up things beautifully for the business end of the tournament. Here you can see the IPL Week Six Recap.
We take a quick look At IPL Week Six Recap:
#1 Mumbai turns back the clock
It took five weeks for Mumbai to register their first win this season. Mumbai played just a single game this week. They were up against the then-table-toppers, Gujarat Titans. Batting first MI posted a formidable score despite battling hiccups in the middle. But the Gujarat Titans looked in complete control of the chase. They needed 9 runs off the last over. But a vintage MI turned up on the park to defend the score. The victory scenes resembled MI’s famous heists. But the sad part of the entire proceedings was the fact that it happened a little too late. MI is the first team to get knocked out this season!
#2 The perfect week for RCB
RCB headed into this week with the baggage of three back-to-back losses. The fans were worried whether this season too would pan out like the ones earlier. RCB were up against two southern teams against whom they didn’t have a great recent track record. They batted first in both games. RCB posted a par score against CSK but defended the target beautifully. They went one better against SRH and exacted their revenge. RCB completely outplayed SRH to maintain their grip on the number four position in the table.
#3 But no great week for the King
Virat Kohli’s barren run continues. He looked hard for runs in the game against CSK. Kohli spent a considerable amount of time at the crease. But runs never really seem to be coming from his blade. He was dismissed for a 33-ball 30. It went from bad to worse for Kohli when he was dismissed for a golden duck against SRH. Kohli for the second time this season was dismissed for a golden duck. It was a week when Kohli’s personal form hit rock bottom.
#4 Kolkata, Punjab, and Delhi – the same old story for these three
Week six did bring in promise for these three teams. Kolkata with a win over Rajasthan seemed to have revived their campaign. But they went two places back with their spineless display against LSG. Their campaign is all but over. Punjab halted Gujarat’s run but their own momentum came to a screeching halt with a loss to RR. Delhi was amazing against SRH but was below-par against CSK. The fortunes of these three teams are again at crossroads with them needing to win everything to make it to the next round.
#5 The new number 1
It almost had become a routine with Gujarat Titans topping the table week after week. But this week saw a new team picking up the crown. LSG who were flying the under for a large part of the IPL became the number 1 team. Their resounding win over KKR helped them go on top of the table. LSG’s 4 match winning streak helped them dethrone Gujarat Titans, who lost two games on the bounce. It makes up for an exciting week ahead!
