The Indian Premier League has finally kick-started and six teams have played their first games till now. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders have managed to win their opening games, while, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost their first match of the season.
The season has just begun and we have plenty of games to witness for the next two months. Let’s narrow down the best and the worst 3 players from every team. In this article, we will cover the studs and duds of the Chennai Super Kings.
Studs of Chennai Super Kings
Suresh Raina
‘Chinna Thalla’ Suresh Raina made a strong back for CSK after missing the previous IPL season due to some personal reasons. Suresh Raina amassed a total of 54 runs in 36 balls before he got run-out. CSK deeply missed the services of Raina last season and his return will surely boost their confidence.
Sam Curran
Sam Curran is coming up as a great all-rounder. England’s international has proved his skills with the ball as well as his bat. MS Dhoni can use him as a power-hitter whenever it is needed. Curran will be expected to play a very big role in CSK’s ongoing IPL season.
Ambati Rayudu
Ambati Rayudu is a proven superstar. He is a batting mastermind and has the calibre to single-handedly carry his side. Ambati Rayudu’s form will be very crucial for the “Yellow Brigade”. He started his season decently with 23 runs in the first match. MS Dhoni and Co. will be expecting more from him.
Duds of Chennai Super Kings
Dwayne Bravo
Dwayne Bravo is an IPL legend but his legacy is being stretched by CSK. 37-year-old Bravo is not the same player he used to be a couple of years back. Although he went for just 28 runs in the first match, his presence won’t bring a massive difference for CSK in the ongoing season.
MS Dhoni
He might just prove us wrong, but MS Dhoni is not a reliable batsman anymore. Don’t get us wrong, his captaincy is still pinch-perfect but he lacks in the batting department. After a horrendous IPL 13, Dhoni’s fans expected a strong comeback from their ‘Thalla’. However, he failed to execute in the first game. He went for a duck against DC and that pretty much sums up MSD’s form in recent years.
Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa wanted to be the first player to score 1000+ runs in an IPL season, however, it, now, looks difficult for the former KKR opener to even get a place in CSK’s playing 11. Uthappa experienced a poor run while playing for RR and it looks like history is going to repeat itself for the former Indian wicketkeeper.
