IPL is easily the best franchise cricketing league in the world. The tournament features the best stars from across the globe. Cricketing action in the IPL is second to none. We look at few of the most overrated and underrated stars in the IPL.
Underrated Stars:
#3 Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra is one of the most underrated spinner in IPL history. He has 160 wickets in 151 matches. His bowling strike-rate of 19.86 is flat out brilliant. Mishra concedes just 7.35 runs per over. But sadly Mishra has never got the due he richly deserves. His ability to fox the batsmen in flight and in variations is splendid. He continues to remain a proven performer for DC in IPL.
#2 Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla is a two time IPL champion (2012 and 2014). He has picked up 156 wickets in 164 games in the IPL. Chawla is an IPL veteran. He has played vital roles for teams like Punjab and Kolkata. He even hit the winning runs for KKR in IPL 2014 finals. Chawla sadly has never received the kind of adulation that other players might have received after playing these many games.
#1 Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey remains one of India’s best fielders. He has been an IPL constant right since IPL 2009. Pandey became the first Indian to score a century in IPL. He smashed a century against Deccan Chargers while representing RCB in 2009. Pandey’s moment under the sun came in IPL 2014 finals when he smashed 95 in a championship winning cause for KKR. He has scored 400+ runs twice in the IPL (2014 and 2020). A gun fielder, an attacking batsman, yet Pandey remains in the sidelines.
Overrated Stars:
#3 Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan is credited with revolutionising England’s white ball cricket. He led England to T20 World Cup finals in 2016 and won England the 50-over World Cup in 2019. But Morgan has largely remained ineffective in the IPL. He was shouldered with responsibilities both at SRH and at KKR. But Morgan failed to deliver on more occasions than one. Morgan’s numbers reflect the same as well. He averages 25.44 with the bat while his strike rate is a below par 126.31.
#2 Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav made in to the Indian team thanks to his domestic performances. He was a honest trier with both bat and the ball. Jadhav made significant contributions to the Indian team whenever he played. But he sort of was a misfit when it came to T20I’s. Jadhav couldn’t really stamp his authority in the IPL. He averages a lowly 22.82 in the IPL and strikes at 124.15.
#1 Dwayne Bravo
Dwayne Bravo is widely regarded as one of the best allrounders in the world. He is a freelancer who globe trots his way into various international leagues. Bravo makes the playing XI mostly on basis of his reputation. But it’s time his numbers were looked at with precision. Bravo’s economy rate is a high 8.38. He bowls largely at the death that allows him to pick a lot of wickets. Teams have figured out Bravo and he doesn’t contribute much with the bat either. His skills have been on the wane especially in the last 2 seasons.
