The IPL 2021 player auctions witnessed history being made. Teams like Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore went all the way to acquire players. Australian fast bowlers were much in demand in the IPL 2021 Auction

Highest paid player in IPL auction history:

Chris Morris became the most expensive signing in IPL history with Rajasthan Royals spending INR 16.25 crores for the South African all-rounder at the 2021 auction. This broke the record which was previously held by Yuvraj Singh in 2015 when he was bought for INR 16 crores by Delhi.

Top 5 highest-paid players in the auction:

Apart from Chris Morris, it was New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson who broke several records. He was grabbed by RCB for INR 15 crores after an intense bidding battle with Punjab.

RCB bought Glenn Maxwell for INR 14.25 crores. RCB had literally spent INR 30 crores on two players.

Jhye Richardson was bought by Punjab for a whopping INR 14 crores.

Krishnappa Gowtham was the fifth highest-paid player in the auction. CSK acquired him for INR 9.25 crores.

Fast bowlers received the highest paycheques:

3 of the top 5 highest-paid players in yesterday’s auction were fast bowlers. Chris Morris, Kyle Jamieson, Jhye Richardson are all known for their fast bowling skills.

Punjab acquired BBL star, Riley Meredith for a whopping INR 8 crores. Meredith caught attention for his raw pace during the BBL. Mumbai retained Nathan Coulter-Nile for a lesser fee of INR 5 crores this time as compared to INR 8 crores they paid him last year.

MI also added Adam Milne to their squad (INR 3.2 crores). While Rajasthan picked Mustafizur Rahman for INR 1 crore and Delhi picked Tom Curran (5.25 crores) and Umesh Yadav (1 crore) respectively.
