The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will commence on 9 April 2021. Teams are slowly taking stock of the neutral venues they will be playing in this year. The uncapped players will be waiting for an opportunity to showcase their talent. Many uncapped bowlers in the IPL have gone on to represent their national teams later. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jofra Archer are all IPL products. IPL 2021 will be a budding ground for uncapped bowlers targeting a World Cup spot later this year.
StumpsandBails brings to you 5 uncapped bowlers who we feel will have a great IPL season
#5 R Sai Kishore
R Sai Kishore is an intelligent left-arm spinner who plies his trade for Tamil Nadu in domestic tournaments. He was brilliant in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2021 especially the knockout games. He picked up 2-16 in the semi-finals while he went for just 11 runs in the finals. His overall economy rate in the competition was a brilliant 4.82. CSK had purchased him at his base price of INR 20 lakhs in IPL 2020 but he didn’t get a game last season. This season might just be the one that Kishore needs.
#4 Chetan Sakariya
Chetan Sakariya broke the IPL door with his consistent domestic performances. Rajasthan Royals bought him for INR 1.2 crores in IPL 2021 auctions. Sakariya took 18 wickets in 6 games in the Cooch Behar trophy. He impressed Glenn McGrath at the MRF pace foundation. Sakariya went on to represent Saurashtra in the 2018-19 Ranji trophy. He picked up 29 wickets in 8 matches. Sakariya made an impression in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2021 where his 5-11 demolished Vidarbha. His left arm angle provides him the extra zing.
#3 Lukman Meriwala
Lukman Meriwala is a domestic workhorse. He played a massive role in taking Baroda to the finals of SMAT 2021. Meriwala was the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. He picked up 15 wickets in 8 games at an outstanding strike rate of 12.2. Delhi Capitals bought Meriwala at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. He could prove to be a potent force alongside Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. His left arm angle will provide variety to DC’s one-dimensional attack.
#2 Marco Jansen
Marco Jansen made a lot of heads turn when Mumbai Indians picked him in IPL 2021 auctions. MI acquired him for INR 20 lakhs. Jansen is 6’ 8’’ tall and his height and bounce make him a difficult prospect to face. He was one of the net bowlers who troubled Virat Kohli during India’s tour to South Africa in 2018. Quinton De Kock, South African keeper-batsman is said to have asked the MI management to go for Jansen. He is handy with the bat lower down the order. Jansen has all the makings of being the next Jofra Archer in world cricket.
#1 Kartik Tyagi
Kartik Tyagi made quite an impression in the U-19 World Cup in 2020. He unsettled batsmen with his pace and aggression. Rajasthan Royals had invested in Tyagi before his U-19 exploits. He went for INR 1.3 crores in the IPL 2020 auction. Tyagi played 10 games in IPL 2020. He picked up 9 wickets but was a tad too expensive at 9.61. India picked him as one of the net bowlers for the tour to Australia. IPL 2021 might just prove to be a breakthrough season for Tyagi.
