Ganguly To Discuss With The Franchises About Holding The IPL Or Not:
Coronavirus pandemic, which has disrupted the major global sports events, has put the happening of the lucrative Indian Premier League(IPL) in danger.
The mega tournament, which is held annually, was supposed to begin on March 29th but was pushed ahead to April 15th due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, and the BCCI announced previously that the final decision would be taken after assessing the situation of the health crisis every week.
Moreover, the Indian government has decided to stop issuing visas to foreign players until April 15th as a precautionary move in the wake of coronavirus scare. Hence the organizers had to delay the matches.
But there are many doubts if it will be held at least from that date as the threat of the virus has not become less severe.
There are many new cases being reported daily, and the central government and many state governments have imposed lockdowns of many cities until March 31st to prevent further spreading of the infections.
Now there are reports that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will hold a meeting with all the owners of the eight teams on 24th Tuesday via teleconference before taking the final decision on this year’s tournament.
A BCCI official who is aware of the matter said, “BCCI and IPL franchises to have a conference call on coming Tuesday to discuss the process and further way of IPL 2020. BCCI office has closed so that no meeting can be held there; similarly, no meeting can be held in the hotel, so they have opted for the conference call.”
Number Of Deaths In India Increase To 8:
There are nearly 325000 positive cases of the virus being reported across the world and out of which 14,000 people have been killed.
In India, the number of cases is increasing at an alarming rate touching 467 on Monday, leading to 8 deaths.
